It depends on what you mean by technology. DNA etc may have convicted him, not to mention the witness statement of those who survived, but it was LUCK that caught him. Technology in the form of routine checking of his vehicle Registration Plates, by the Police, and the speedy response in confirming them to be false via the DVLA computerized system did contribute to his initial arrest, although not specifically in connection with the Murders. The connection was only made later when they cross-referenced how many of his characteristics were similar to those of the 'Yorkshire Ripper'. An investigation of the area he was arrested found various articles indicative of the 'Yorkshire Ripper'.....this leading to him being fully investigated with regard to the murders. So with regard to your question I would say that except for the technology used in checking the Reg Plates, which was initiated by a Police Officer carrying out a general/common check technology did NOT really contribute to his arrest in any significant or specific way with regard to the murders as he wasn't initially arrested in connection with them. The success in convicting Peter Sutcliffe using technology would however have been significant with regard to forensics (DNA, Blood etc.)
